Techniques continue to improve and now we usually perform the short scar facelift that creates a more natural, youthful appearance with less risk and scarring. A short scar face and neck lift can tighten loose skin and muscle and remove and remove or reposition excess fat to eliminate sagging. The underlying muscle fascia is tightened at the level of the cheek as well as on the side of the neck and excess fat is removed with liposuctioning with a very fine cannula. After the deep tissues are tightened, the excess skin is pulled up and back and then trimmed. The incisions are closed with stitches and/or staples on the scalp. Usually a drain is left to decrease swelling and bruising and is removed during the first postoperative visit. A dressing is applied to protect the entire area. Most people can return home after the surgery or if they prefer stay in a hotel with a nurse.
